The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Center for Women's Studies (CWS) will hold an international conference titled “8th International Conference on Gender Studies: Gender and Art” at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center between 12-14 May 2022.
The conference aims to add new studies to literature by encouraging the participants towards intergenerational and intersectional dialogues around the theme of gender and art. The conference, which aims to deal with all aspects of how gender roles based on sovereignty ideologies and socio-cultural fictions are produced, supported and criticized through art, as well as the struggle of art producers and critics with gendered bodies and social order based on inequality, will be presented to leading academics, researchers and practitioners, will create an outstanding platform for them to present their work, discuss and shed new light on the field. At the same time, other gender issues will be addressed in this platform.
The co-chairpersons of the conference, which will last for 3 days, is EMU-CWS President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Süheyla Üçışık Erbilen and EMU Architecture Faculty, academic staff member Prof. Dr. Kağan Günçe. The keynote speakers of the conference are Prof. Dr. Ahu Antmen with her presentation titled “To be or not to be: 'Women Artists” and Laleper Aytek with her presentation titled “Reading the History of the Photograph Canon as a History of Subjectivization of Female Photographers who have been ignored for many years”.
