The fifth edition of “International Nurten Aksugür Best Concept in Communication Student Competition” organized by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Architecture, Interior Architecture Department, and the Aksugür family, was held this year with the sponsorship of the Aksugür family. The projects submitted for the competition were recently evaluated during a jury meeting. A total of 51 projects from 20 universities across 9 different countries participated in the competition.
The jury consisting of EMU Faculty of Architecture, Chair of Interior Architecture Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afet Coşkun, Interior Architecture Department academic staff member Assist. Prof. Dr. Özlem Olgaç Türker, Prof. Dr. Erdal Aksugür, Prof. Dr. Sevinç Kurt, Dr. Elif E. Türkkan, Dr. Eliz Erdenizci and Pembe Komut evaluated the participants of the competition and awarded Simar Güney from Istanbul Technical University with the first place winner, followed by İrem Özdemir from MEF University and Görkem Kaya from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in second and third places, respectively.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Guita Farivarsadri and Dr. Eliz Erdenizci, who are part of the organizing committee and faculty members at EMU Faculty of Architecture, thanked all those who played a role in the successful organization of the event, highlighted that attracting participants from around the globe was a remarkable accomplishment for them.
EMU Faculty of Architecture, Interior Architecture Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afet Ç. Coşkun noted that the international competition not only motivates interior architecture students but also offers them a platform for free expression. Expressing her delight at EMU being able to host such a prestigious event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Coşkun emphasized that the competition enables students to display their creative talents and share their innovative concepts in the design field.
The said competition has been organized in memory of Prof. Dr. Nurten Aksugür who launched the EMU Department of Interior Architecture between the years of 1997-2001, becoming the founding Chairperson of the department. Prof. Dr. Aksugür passed away on 23 July, 2012. The competition aims to highlight the significance of the conceptual aspect of design for interior architecture students and to help them communicate effectively using a range of individual presentation techniques.
