The new members of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Board of Trustees were inaugurated on Monday, the 22nd of July, 2019. A Handover Ceremony took place at 12:00 at EMU Rector’s Office, Board of Trustees Meeting Room with the participation of former and new members. Speaking at the ceremony, former EMU Board of Trustees President Boysan Boyra stated: “As is known, the quadruple coalition which made up the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s 22nd Government collapsed approximately two months ago. The newly appointed president and members of our Board of Trustees have been approved by our President and published in the Official Gazette. I would like to wish the new president and members the best of luck in their positions whilst indicating my belief that they will show great effort to ensure that our institution continues to develop.”
“We Always Complied With Legislation”
Indicating that his reign as the Board of Trustees President lasted for approximately 14 months Boysan Boyra stated: “It is my belief that during our time in office we worked hard to make positive contributions to EMU which is one of the most important institutions of the country. We made decisions to help the sustainability of the improving university budget. During our time in office, we valued neutrality and were positive about new initiatives that will help our university. We always complied with legislation. We were against partisanship and acting based on personal interest. EMU is a praiseworthy institution of the TRNC in terms of its institutional, administrative and academic structure, education principles as well as national and international achievements. Therefore I am very proud to have held this important position. I would like to thank the Board of Trustees members, Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, our teammates and EMU personnel for their outstanding support during my time as president.”
“We Are Going To Carry EMU Forward”
New EMU Board of Trustees President Dr. Erdal Özcenk indicated that they are proud as a result of being passed the torch at this flagship institution. Thanking the former president and members of the Board of Trustees for the work they carried out during their time in office, Özcenk emphasized that individuals are temporary but institutions are forever. Özcenk concluded by indicating that they will take all of the necessary steps to represent the university in the best way possible and by vowing to carry EMU forward.
A meal took place after the speeches and was attended by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu Oğurlu, Vice Rector for Administrative and Technical Affairs Prof. Dr. Naciye Doratlı and Vice Rector for Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Sevin Uğural in addition to new and former members of EMU Board of Trustees. At the end of the meal, former EMU Board of Trustees President Boysan Boyra was presented a 40th Year Plate by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam. Plates were also presented to former Board of Trustees Members Server Erozan, A. Hayri Orçan and Saffet Mehmetalioğulları by Boysan Boyra.
